Madhuswamy, Vatal slam Government

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Janata Dal (U) Floor leader J.C. Madhuswamy and Kannada Chalavali Vatal Paksha leader Vatal Nagaraj on Wednesday criticised the State Government in the Legislative Assembly saying it was undermining the sovereignty of the legislature by insisting that it would discuss the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's final award at the all-party meeting first and later in the House.

Taking a serious view of the inordinate delay in announcing its stand on the award in the House, Mr. Nagaraj said that Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy was not punctual in coming to the session since the award was announced on Februray 5.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister had gone to New Delhi for meeting Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to remind him about the pending projects.

Home Minister M.P. Prakash said that the issue could not be directly brought before the House for various reasons and the Government wanted to arrive at a consensus on it at the all-party meeting and then it would inform the House the details of a decision on the next course of action accordingly.
