With Darshan's 25th film Bhupathi - replete with stale mannerisms, lengthy speeches and a flagging theme - Kannada cinema can be said to have reached its nadir. Such films can only hasten the declining business of Kannada cinema.

The director has given the go-by to thematic content to please hero's fan club.

The accidental meeting of a prospective IAS officer and street fighter Bhupathi (Darshan) and the only daughter of the Chief Minister (Mahesh Rishi) Aisiri (Shireen), their romantic escapades and emotional upheavals form the narrative.
