BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday stayed proceedings against senior IPS official Kempaiah pursuant to a chargesheet filed against him by the Lokayukta. Mr. Kempaiah on Tuesday moved the court urging it to quash a chargesheet filed against him by the Lokayukta. In his petition, Mr. Kempaiah said he had joined government service in 1970 and the Indian Police Service (IPS) in 1980. He said during 1991-1993, he was posted as Deputy Commissioner of Police (Bangalore East) in charge of Law and Order. On April 15, 1993, he said his residence and offices were searched by personnel from the Bureau of Investigation following an anonymous petition to the Lokayukta. A case was registered under the Prevention of Corruption Act on May 31, 1993. However, it was only in February 2007 that a chargesheet was filed against him and this was disclosed by the Lokayukta at a press conference.
