LAWCET on May 27

HYDERABAD: LAWCET-2007 notification will be issued on March 1 and sale of applications will begin on March 7. The last date of receipt of applications is April 9. APSCHE Chairman K.C. Reddy on Wednesday said the test for three-year course would be conducted on May 27 from 10 a.m. to 11.30 a.m. while the test for five-year course would be conducted from 2.30 p.m. to 4 p.m. the same day. - Staff Reporter

Urdu Bill introduced

HYDERABAD: A Bill to amend the Andhra Pradesh Official Languages Act of 1966 and extend Urdu as second official language to Karimnagar and Nalgonda districts was introduced in the Assembly on Wednesday. Rural Development Minister D. Srinivas introduced the Bill. - Special Correspondent

BJP flays State stand

HYDERABAD: The BJP has criticised the Government on quota for Muslims and some Ministers for their repeated assertions on reservations even when the issue is pending in the Supreme Court. N. Sankaran to head group

HYDERABAD: A retired IAS officer from the State S.R. Sankaran has been appointed by the Centre Chairman of the Technical Support Group to draft rules for implementation of the Forest Rights Bills. The 21-member group has the Joint Secretary in the Tribal Affairs Ministry as Member-Secretary. The group will prepare the rules in three months. - Special Correspondent

SJM's warning

HYDERABAD: The Swadeshi Jagaran Manch (SJM) which is spearheading the agitation of turmeric farmers in Nizamabad district demanding purchase by the Markfed at Rs.4,000 a quintal has warned of staging a demonstration at the Assembly if the demand is not conceded, according to K. HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh All-Universities Employees and Workers' Union on Wednesday demanded regularisation of daily wage staff working in universities, fixation of a time scale for them with benefits like PF and ESI. KURNOOL: M.A. Gafoor, CPI (M) legislator, formally flagged off the Bangalore Super Luxury service. The bus leaves Kurnool at 2 noon and reaches Bangalore at 8.15 pm. In the return direction, it leaves Bangalore at 12 midnight to reach Kurnool at 8.15 am next morning.

RTC staff stage dharna

ANANTAPUR: The APSRTC Staff and Workers' Federation staged a protest here on Wednesday demanding regularisation of services of casual and contract workers. Union leaders -- B.N. Reddy and N. Krishnamurthy -- and CITU district secretary M. Imtiaz alleged that casual drivers and conductors working for the last 10 years were not regularised so far. - Staff Reporter

Dharmana to tour Srikakulam

Srikakulam: Minister for Revenue and Relief Dharmana Prasada Rao will arrive on a three-day visit of the district on Thursday.
