Railway police step up vigil

All compartments checked at platform

BANGALORE: Following the bomb blast in Samjhauta Express at Panipat on Monday, security has been tightened at all the railway stations in Bangalore Division. The Railway Protection Special Force, which had been camping in Bangalore City Railway Station following Cauvery agitations, had been pressed into services and checking has been intensified.

On Tuesday, senior officials of the railways and police visited Bangalore City, Cantonment and Yeshvantpur Railway stations to monitor security arrangements put in place. A release said that door frame metal detector had been installed at the entry point of City Railway Station and the luggage of passengers were being checked random.

Besides the train formations were thoroughly checked by the train maintenance staff at pit and washing line and were being brought to the platforms under escort. The formations were being opened for the entry in the presence of security staff and dog squads of Railway Protection Force and the Government Railway Police were pressed into service after passengers occupy their seats.
