CARD draws good response from students

Proposed Science City project in district will provide many options to educated youth: Minister

ANANTAPUR: A two-day Career Awareness and Recruitment Drive (CARD) jointly organised by Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education and National Association for Software Companies (NASSCOM) commenced on the campus of Sri Krishnadevaraya University here on Saturday. Response to the programme was overwhelming as a large number of students from Anantapur and Kurnool districts turned up for the career mela.

Inaugurating the programme in `Bhuvana Vijayam' auditorium on the university campus, Minister for Agriculture and Civil Supplies N. Raghuveera Reddy said that the State Government was exploring all avenues to provide a wide range of employment opportunities to educated youth. The Government aimed at ensuring a job to at least one person in every farmer's family, he said.

Infrastructure

The State Government was providing infrastructure for setting up industries by creating Special Economic Zones and thus helping the educated youth get employment opportunities, the Minister said.

Coming to the district, the Minister claimed that 25,000 youth could get jobs in the textile sector in several units to come up near Hindupur in the next couple of years.

The proposed Science City project in the district could also throw a wide range of opportunities to the educated youth in the years to come, he said.

Chairman of APSCHE K.C. Reddy said employment opportunities to educated youth were abundant now but they were failing to grab them due to lack of certain skills.

Vice Chancellor of SKU A. Rama Rao said it was a good opportunity for students of drought-prone areas.

He mentioned that a dozen companies were participating in the mela. Principal Secretary of Higher Education Ashutosh Mishra, APSCHE secretary J. Christopher, Director of NASSCOM Ramachandran, Vice Chancellor of JNTU K. Rajagopal and Zilla Parishad Chairperson T. Kavitha participated.
