Kolkata: A strike called by employees and managers of the Bata chain of shoe stores on Saturday disrupted sales at its outlets. A company spokesman said that due to the strike the company could open only 35 per cent of its stores and 50 per cent of the usual number of customers made purchases. The All-India Bata Shop Managers Union and the All-India Bata Shop Employees Union said they would observe a strike on March 5, 6 and 7 across the country. The unions had called the strike to protest against the management's decision to terminate or suspend the services of managers and employees as they were not complying with the company's rules. PTI
