Milk van driver hacked to death

BANGALORE: A van driver was hacked to death by a four-member gang in Vidyaranyapura police station limits on Friday.

The police identified the victim as Sreenivasa (40), a resident of Attur Layout and driver of a van transporting milk from Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF).

Around 11.45 p.m. Sreenivasa left his house in the van to fetch milk from the Yelahanka dairy. Four men, who came in a multi-utility vehicle, intercepted the van on Singapura Main Road and smashed its windscreens.

Three loaders, who were seated at the back of the van, jumped out and fled even as the four men dragged Sreenivasa out of the vehicle and stabbed him all over with knives.

On being alerted by the loaders, the Vidyaranyapura police rushed to the spot and found Sreenivasa lying in a pool of blood.

They rushed him to hospital where he died. The Vidyaranyapura police, who have registered a case, suspect rivalry to be the motive.

Studio burgled

Thieves broke into a photo studio and an ice-cream parlour in R.T. Nagar police station limits on Friday night and made away with cameras and cash.

The police said the thieves broke open the rolling shutters of Antony's studio near CBI Cross and took away four cameras and lens, all worth Rs. 1 lakh.

In the other incident, burglars made away with Rs. 500 in cash from an ice-cream parlour on Dinnur Main Road. The R.T. Nagar police have registered separate cases.

Pedestrian killed

Srinivasa (50), a pedestrian, was killed when a multi-utility vehicle hit him in front of Ayyappa Temple, off near T.C.M. Royan Circle, in Chickpet police station limits around 6.30 p.m. on Friday. The police have seized the vehicle and arrested its driver, Vijayendra.

Recovered

The Siddapura police have arrested Appu alias Shankar (22) of Siddapura on charges of theft and recovered from him two laptops and two mobile phones, together worth Rs. 1.45 lakh.

DVDs seized

The Central Crime Branch staff on Friday arrested two persons and seized from them 219 pirated DVDs, estimated at Rs. 45,000.

The police said Honnesh (21) of N.S. Palya and Raju (19) of Jalahalli East were arrested while they were selling the DVDs in Jayanagar.
