Literary meets to be held on third Saturday of every month

BHUBANESWAR : Concerned over cold response of the common man towards Oriya language and literature, the State Culture Department has come up with an initiative to host a monthly literary meet.

The meet, named as `Srujani Sandhya' (an evening of creativity), will be solemnised on the third Saturday evening of each month at the Bhanja Kala Mandap being coordinated by Orissa Sahitya Akademi, an autonomous organisation under the Culture Department. Culture Minister S.N.Patro and Culture Secretary Gopinath Mohanty jointly launched it on Saturday at the Mandap in presence of a host of litterateurs.

Interaction

Addressing on the occasion, Patro emphasised on a continued interaction between the readers and writers that, he hoped, would benefit the both and serve the growth of a healthy literary tradition. He further called for a greater participation of the youth in such cultural activities.

In his address, Mohanty maintained the principal objective of the meet would be promotion of Oriya language and literature.

Promotion

"The meet has to stimulate the writers' involvement in formulating a strategy for promotion of the mother tongue against onslaught of English language," he said.

Akademi president Ganeswar Mishra and secretary Rabindra Nath Das apart, well-known writers Nityananda Satapathy and Chandramoni Narayan Swamy addressed the gathering.
