CHENNAI: Chairman of the Tamil Nadu Palmyra Workers Welfare Board (TNPWWB) Kumari Ananthan on Thursday urged the Government to merge the board with the Palm Products Development Board. Mr. Ananthan said in a statement here that the TNPWWB had adopted a resolution pointing out that merger of the two boards was necessary as the welfare of the workers and development of palm products were inter-related. Through another resolution, the board said the Government should come forward to implement the Rs. 80-crore proposal for providing four lakh jobs before the end of the current palmyra sap season. The project would yield revenue to the tune of Rs.5000 crore a year, it added. The meeting also decided to highlight the need for introduction of an equipment used for increasing the shelf-life of the palmyra sap.
