HYDERABAD: A motorcyclist, Jayachandra Reddy, 26, was crushed to death by a speeding lorry in front of the BSNL office in Chikkadpally in the early hours of Saturday. Driver Moin fled after abandoning the lorry at the spot.

A private firm engineer, the victim was going from RTC crossroads to Musheerabad around 4.30 a.m. when the oncoming lorry rammed into his bike, Chikkadpally Inspector V.N.V. Satyanarayana said.

The bike was on the extreme left side of the road, but the lorry driver seemed to have dozed off and lost control of the wheel, he explained. After hitting the bike, the lorry dragged it for over 50 yards. The truck then rammed into a roadside electric pole completely uprooting it and came to a halt only after bumping against the pavement.

The displaced pole would have resulted in more damage had it fallen on the ground. The victim did not wear a helmet.

"He would not have survived even if he wore the headgear," police said. He hailed from Nalgonda and lived with his sister, also an engineer, in a rented house at Padmaraonagar.

    Youth found dead

An unidentified man aged about 25 years was found dead, with bleeding injuries, along the compound wall of Om Puri steel factory at Chikkadpally on Saturday. Police believe the victim tried to enter the factory for stealing scrap and died after slipping down from the top of the compound wall.
