No threat to coalition Government: Prakash

DAVANGERE: Home Minister M.P. Prakash has said that he does not foresee any danger to the Janata Dal (Secular)-Bharatiya Janata Party coalition Government. His remarks come in the wake of the call given by Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa to BJP workers to be prepared for elections. The Government will complete its full term, he said.

Talking to presspersons here on Sunday, Mr. Prakash said that mere calling upon the workers to be prepared for elections did not mean drastic political developments resulting in fall of the government.

Mr. Prakash took exception to the statement of Congress leaders M. Mallikarjuna Kharge and H.K. Patil that Karnataka had neglected the Cauvery issue.

He said that the Congress had extended its full support to the Government at the all-party meeting and advised it to consult legal experts and then proceed in the matter.

Cauvery row

The Government was committed to plead before the Union Government and, if necessary, before the Supreme Court and apprise it of the injustice done to Karnataka by the Cauvery waters Dispute Tribunal, Mr. Prakash said.

On the statement of Mr. Patil that the Congress would approach the court if the Government failed to announce election to the post of the Chairman of the Legislative Council, the Home Minister asked why the party was not so much conscious when it had nominated Sudarshan, B.R. Patil and Kalmankar.

The Government would hold the election at an appropriate date, he said.

Water release

The Government had taken note of the complaints that excess water was released to Andhra Pradesh from the Tungabhadra reservoir and the matter would soon be examined, he said.

Mr. Prakash said that Janata Dal (Secular) would not contest the election to the post of President.
