HYDERABAD: The Opposition Telugu Desam and Telangana Rashtra Samiti have demanded that the Legislative Assembly and Returning Officer for the Legislative Council elections Tuljanand Singh reject the "A" and "B" forms submitted by the Congress nominees, as they were not in order.

The representatives of the two parties lodged a complaint with Mr. Singh in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday on the alleged lapses in the papers filed by the Congress nominees. They questioned as to how he had accepted them. According to them, the Congress nominees had also failed to submit the forms within the prescribed time.

N. Janardhan Reddy, Deputy Leader of TDLP, said it was mandatory that form "A" must be submitted by authorised persons of the political party. However, the "A" form was forwarded by Digvijay Singh "who claimed to be the general secretary of the Indian National Congress" authorising the APCC president K. Keshava Rao to issue B forms, he added.

Dr. Keshava Rao on his part had released the list of the candidates without mentioning the names of their father/mother/husband of the respective candidates, which was contrary to the rules of the Election Commission, Dr. Reddy added.

Claiming that there were lapses in the dates of submission of "A" form, TDP and TRS MLAs entered into an argument with Mr. Singh when he said the applications he received were in order during the scrutiny. "As a returning officer, I found that the forms submitted by the candidates are in order," he said. Mr. Singh later told reporters that he would give his reply to the objections in a day or two.
