HYDERABAD: As part of the special focus on old city development, Information Minister Mohd. Ali Shabbir laid the foundation stone for 3.5-km long HMWSSB drinking water pipeline covering the thickly-populated Hakimpet, Tolichowki and Golkonda areas.

The pipeline, being laid at a cost of Rs. 3.2 crores, would benefit one lakh households in 29 bastis. The Minister said the Government had waived road-cutting costs to the tune of Rs. 60 lakhs for laying the pipeline.

Of the Rs. 2,020-crore package announced by the Government for developing the old city, Rs. 700 crores would be spent this year, he said. Water board Managing Director K.S. Jawahar Reddy said the pipeline would be readied before the end of summer.
