Slum clearance board to seek funds

The funds will be used to provide infrastructure in slums

BELLARY: The Karnataka Slum Clearance Board will forward a proposal to the State Government seeking financial assistance to the tune of Rs. 135 crore to construct 35,000 houses and to provide infrastructure in the declared slums in the State. Giving the information, Rajendra Verma, MLA and Chairman of the Board, told presspersons here on Friday that there were 2,555 slums in the State of which 2,048 were declared.

The board planned to utilise the funds to provide infrastructural facilities in the slums in the next 10 years. Another proposal in this regard had been forwarded to the Union Government, which had promised adequate funds.

He would also be attending a meeting to be convened by the Union Government very soon to finalise the proposals.
