Bidar CMC launches anti-stray dog operation

Staff Correspondent

About 40 dogs have been killed in the last three days

BIDAR: The Bidar City Municipal Council seems to have woken up to tackle the menace posed by stray dogs. The CMC had been silent on the issue even after nearly 1,000 dog bite cases were reported in the last two months. However, apparently influenced by anti-stray dog operations in cities such as Bangalore and Mysore, the CMC here has launched its operation and its personnel have killed about 40 dogs in the last three days.

On an average, the district Government hospital treats 11 dog-bite victims a day.

In January, 427 persons were treated, in February, 400, and in the first week of March, 137.

These figures do not include the number of cases treated at private hospitals. But officials estimate that each private hospital treats as many cases as the Government hospital does.

There have been no reports, however, of deaths due to dog bites in the last three months.
