Brothers drown in pond

Incident occurred at Bannerghatta early on Saturday

BANGALORE: Two brothers, aged 11 and 19, drowned in the Suvarnamukhi pond in Bannerghatta in the early hours of Saturday.

They were identified as Satish (11) and Venkatesh (19), of Bakshi Garden in Sriramapuram in Bangalore, the police said.

Around 20 people from Bakshi Garden went to Bannerghatta on Friday night to attend the annual fair at Champakadhama Swamy temple on Saturday. The group had camped on a hillock at Bannerghatta.

After dinner, around 2.30 a.m. some of them went to the pond to wash their hands. When Satish slipped and fell into the pond, his older brother jumped in to rescue him. Both drowned, the police said.

The Fire and Emergency Services personnel fished out the bodies around noon. They were handed over to their family after autopsy at Victoria Hospital. The Bannerghatta police have registered a case.

Woman robbed

A car driver threw chilli powder on a woman's face and robbed her of gold ornaments worth Rs. 40,000 and Rs. 250 in cash in Kengeri police station limits in the early hours of Saturday.

The police said that around 5.30 a.m. Kathyayini (38) was waiting for a bus at Anchepalya on Bangalore-Mysore highway to reach Bangalore. A car driver offered her a lift. After she got into the car he drove towards Mylasandra Gate, threw chilli powder on her face and robbed her of a pair of gold bangles, a ring and the cash. He pushed her out of the car and sped away, the police said. The Kengeri police have registered a case.

Chain stolen

A man put his hands through an open window and stole a gold chain worth Rs. 50,000 from Venkatappa's house on 10th Cross, RPC Layout, in the early hours of Saturday.

The police said Venkatappa's wife Mamatha had kept her chain on a table near the window. The Vijayanagar police have registered a case.

Laptop stolen

Thieves smashed the windows of a businessman's car and stole a laptop worth Rs. 45,000 from it on Friday night.

The police said the theft took place around 9 p.m. when Armstrong of Whitefield had parked his car in 7th Block, Koramangala, and had gone to a restaurant. The Koramangala police have registered a case.

Motorist killed

Vinayaka Murthy (25), an instructor at a gymnasium and a resident of Indiranagar, was killed in a road accident on Old Madras Road near Big Bazaar around 9.30 p.m. on Friday.

The police said Murthy, who was riding a motorcycle, lost balance and rammed the median after a bus that was ahead of him came to a sudden halt. He suffered head injuries and died in hospital. The Indiranagar traffic police have registered a case.
