Italian film festival inaugurated

CHENNAI: A four-day Italian film festival was inaugurated by R.J.Shahaney, Chairman, Ashok Leyland, at the South Indian Film Chamber of Commerce auditorium on Monday.

The festival was jointly organised by the Italian Cultural Centre, New Delhi, Department of French and Foreign Languages, University of Madras, and the Indo Cine Appreciation Foundation. Mr. Shahaney said Italian films were shown in the city more often than earlier. This proved that the films were getting more popular

"One can also know more about the country and about their culture and natural resources," he added.

Chitra Krishnan, chairperson, School of English and foreign languages, University of Madras, presided.

Film actor Padma Narayanan (Veerasamy) and E. Thangaraj, General Secretary, ICAF, spoke.
