Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) on Monday released a cheque for Rs 4.83 lakh to the Karnataka State Slum Clearance Board to rehabilitate 32 slum families under the Centre's Valmiki Ambedkar Awas Yojana.

This follows Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy's visit to Kunte Seenappa Garden slum in Chamarajpet on Sunday. During the visit, the Chief Minister promised the slum dwellers that steps would be taken to improve their living conditions. He also promised them houses under VAMBAY.

But when the slum dwellers said they could not afford to pay the initial deposit money of Rs 15,100 for the houses, Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike Commissioner K. Jairaj offered to bear the costs under the civic body's 18 per cent grants set aside for the welfare of weaker section of society.
