Probe sought into abduction

BIJAPUR: Activists of different organisations on Wednesday launched a dharna at the Deputy Commissioner's office here demanding a probe into the "conspiracy" behind the abduction and assault of Pranth Raitha Sangha vice-president Bhimshi Kaladagi.

Members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India, Karnataka Souhardha Vedike, Mahila Souhardha Vedike, and Tippu Sultan Yuvaka Sangha took part in the protest that will continue till their demand is met.

The CPI(M) has decided to stage a protest across the State on March 16. The call for Bijapur bandh on that day has been withdrawn as the police had arrested eight persons including main accused P. S. Vastrad, he said.
