Cooperative societies asked to utilise health insurance scheme effectively

59,400 members have already opted for the scheme

BELLARY: G. Kuberappa, managing director of Bellary District Central Cooperative Bank, said Yashasvini, the health insurance scheme, was a boon to people in the rural areas especially the poor. He called upon members of cooperative societies to take maximum benefit of the scheme.

He was speaking at the special publicity campaign of the Yashasvini scheme, organised jointly by the Information and Cooperative departments at Hospet here on Tuesday. People should volunteer to avail the benefits of the scheme ensuring its success, he said. He said that nearly 59,400 members of cooperative societies in the district had opted for the scheme so far and efforts were on to add 1.10 lakh people.

Medical treatment

T.N. Giraddi, Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies, said members of cooperative societies could get medical treatment and surgery for various ailments, including heart diseases, up to Rs. 2 lakh in that year. They would have to pay a small sum of Rs. 130 per year. The family members could also avail the benefit of the scheme by making a payment of Rs. 130 per head, he said.

M.P. Sriranganath from the Information department said the campaign would be held in over 30 villages of all the seven taluks in the district. N.H. Bellad, Assistant Registrar, welcomed and Suresh Babu proposed a vote of thanks.
