Eight-member gang arrested for robbery

BIDAR: The Bidar police has arrested an inter-State gang of thieves and recovered materials worth nearly Rs. 2 lakh. The accused were wanted in 15 cases in Bhalki and Humnabad, Superintendent of Police Ravi S. said here on Saturday.

Mr. Ravi told presspersons that the gang had committed robberies in Udgir in Maharashtra.

"We have intimated the police there. They will soon be here to investigate further," he said.

The accused Chingi Singh, Gopal Singh, Kartha Singh, Kamma Singh, Deepak Singh, Chatur Singh and Ambaji were arrested in Bhalki.

The police has recovered 132 grams of gold, 310 grams of silver, two tape recorders, one mobile phone, one walkman, two watches, 50 kilograms of rice, two chairs and two motorcycles.

The bikes were purchased from the money the gang had robbed, Mr. Ravi said.

He congratulated the team that arrested the accused and announced an award of Rs. 5,000 to the team comprising of Dinakar Shetty, Hullannanavar, Rashid Khan, Sharief, Basavaraj, Chandrakant, Subhash, Vijay, Gundappa, Manoj, Saibanna, Akram, and Hanumanthappa. The police said the gang would masquerade as traders of household implements . They would survey the houses and open door locks with hand-made implements .
