SI injured in blast

VISAKHAPATNAM: A police reserve sub inspector was injured when Maoists set off a landmine at Singannakotaon the border of Visakhapatnam and East Godavari districts on Saturday.

District Superintendent of Police J.G. Murali said the incident occurred during combing operations. Murthi, who received splinter injuries, was airlifted to Vizag. He is out of danger. — Staff Reporter

NIFT student drowned

GUNTUR: Ruchita, 18, a first year student of National Institute of Fashion Technology, Hyderabad, drowned in the Krishna downstream of Nagarjuna Sagar Dam on Saturday. Ruchita was trying to retrieve the sandals of her friend when she slipped and fell. Nine friends had come from Hyderabad on a visit to the Nagarjuna Sagar Project. Ruchita was the daughter of an employee in an oil company in Delhi. — Staff Reporter

Two die after

drinking toddy

KHAMMAM: Rambabu, 36, and Guravaiah, 38, of Chatakonda village of Kothagudem mandal died after consuming adulterated toddy on Saturday. Two others fell ill and their condition is said to be serious. — Staff Reporter

Naxal killed

KHAMMAM: One CPI(Maoist) naxalite was killed in an encounter with the Chhattisgarh Armed forces at Gundagao, a village near Ranibodili on Saturday. A .303 rifle, which the Maoists had taken away after killing 55 police personnel in the village, was recovered. — Staff Reporter

Training for PCs

HYDERABAD: The nine-month induction training for candidates who have been provisionally selected as cadet trainee police constables (civil) will commence on March 21 in PCTs at Anantapur, Vizianagaram, Ongole, Amberpet and Tirupati. Four arrested on murder charge

KADAPA: Ramapuram police arrested four persons on charges of killing Chinna Ganganna, chopping his body and dumping the body parts near a hillock in Chakrayapet mandal. Kandle Ganganna, the alleged mastermind, and his three accomplices were remanded in judicial custody. — Staff Reporter

B.Ed admissions

HYDERABAD: Admissions to B.Ed course for this year under all categories and windows would have to be completed before March 28, Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education has said. Admissions done after that would not be recognised. Colleges have to submit the list of candidates admitted under the management quota by March 31.
