Solar eclipse witnessed from Teen Murti House

NEW DELHI: Through projection apparatus and telescopes equipped with solar filters, a large number of people successfully viewed the partial solar eclipse from the sprawling Teen Murti House lawns here on Monday. The public viewing was organised by Nehru Planetarium; Amateur Astronomers Association, Delhi; and SPACE, a non-government organisation.

The Sun became visible around 6-50 a.m. from the Teen Murti House lawns although the sunrise was at 6-27 a.m. With the help of a binocular box projection apparatus, school children calculated the relative angular diameters of the Sun and the Moon during the eclipse by using simple school geometry.

The captured images of the Sun will also be used by students to calculate the eclipse magnitude at different intervals of time.
