NEW DELHI: Four persons, including a head constable and a constable posted with the Krishna Nagar police station here, have been arrested on charges of beating up a businessman in a bid to extort Rs.10 lakh from him. The victim has been admitted to Max Hospital. According to the victim, Arun Jindal, the incident took place on March 9 when his acquaintance Ravinder Sharma asked him to meet him at Dilshad Garden and allegedly demanded Rs.5,000 for some "urgent" work. When Arun said he did not have that much amount with him, Ravinder asked him to drop him and his two friends, Nitin and Seema, at some place. On the way Ravinder asked Arun to stop the car. Two more persons, Head Constable Subodh and Constable Hari Om, forced their way into the vehicle. Subodh allegedly demanded Rs.10 lakh from Arun or else threatened to arrest him for criminally assaulting the woman travelling in the car. While one of the accused drove Arun's car, the policeman allegedly kept beating Arun, injuring him in the head and stomach. Subodh then allegedly told his family members over the phone that he had been arrested in a rape case and if they wanted to save him, they would have to pay up Rs. 10 lakh.
