THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Fire and Rescue Services in the State need to be modernised in a big way and the State Government has submitted a project for this to the Union Government for assistance, Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told the Assembly on Thursday. Replying to a submission from CPI(M) MLA Raju Abraham, he said this proposal, involving an expense of Rs.92.39 crore over the next four years for purchasing modern equipment and carrying out civil works, was under the consideration of the Centre. In the meantime, the State Government would attend to such emergency steps with the financial resources at its command.
