HYDERABAD: A woman threw two children, both below four years of age, into a pond at Jayabheri Park in Petbasheerabad before she jumped into it herself on Thursday. While the body of a boy aged about three years was retrieved, search continued till late in the night to fish out those of the woman and the other child. Identity of the woman as well as the two children believed to be her wards was not known, Petbasheerabad police station Sub-Inspector G. Jagan said. The park watchman's wife Anuradha saw the woman standing on a huge rock abutting the pond around 4 p.m. Even as she asked the stranger who she was and what she was doing there, the latter threw the children into the pond. Seconds later, she too jumped into it. The watchman's wife did not know how to swim and none was around to rescue the woman and the two children. By the time Ms. Anuradha ran out and alerted her husband returning from work, the three persons got drowned in the pool. Alerted by the park staff, police dashed to the spot. Searches would be resumed on Friday.
