Concern over fewer takers for Tamil shorthand

CHENNAI : Speakers at a function, held by The Stenographers' Guild on Thursday to mark the 143rd birth anniversary of Tamil shorthand inventor Rao Saheb M. Srinivasa Rao expressed concern at the falling number of Tamil shorthand learners

Honorary president of the Guild S. V. Ramaswamy offered to train 143 governmentemployees in Tamil shorthand free of cost. The Government could provide stipends to the participants.

Social Welfare Minister Poongothai Aladi Aruna promised to refer the suggestion to the Chief Minister. She distributed prizes to winners of shorthand competitions and unveiled the portrait of Rao Saheb M. Srinivasa Rao. Aravanis Association president Asha Bharathi spoke. Mayor M. Subramanian released a souvenir.
