Madhukar Gupta to focus on police reforms, security

NEW DELHI: Madhukar Gupta took over as Union Home Secretary here on Saturday.

He succeeds V.K. Duggal, who retired after a 27-month-long tenure in the North Block.

Mr. Gupta said he would carry forward the initiatives taken by his predecessor.

His focus would be on police reforms and internal security.

An IAS officer of the 1971 batch from Uttarakhand cadre, Mr. Gupta's last posting was as Secretary, Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry.

He has also held positions of Chief Secretary, Uttarakhand and Vice-Chairman of the Delhi Development Authority.

He has had a five-year tenure in the Home Ministry when he was Joint Secretary (Jammu and Kashmir) in the Ministry.

He will have a two-year tenure as Home Secretary.
