Owner's wife attacked, valuables stolen

CHENNAI: A gang allegedly barged into a handloom store in Anna Nagar, attacked the owner's wife and fled with valuables on Sunday.

Police said Sanjay Gupta (28) owned a shop in Third Avenue Anna Nagar. When he was away, his wife Vinitha Gupta was in the shop with two salesmen. Around 6.15 p.m., a gang arrived in two cars and attacked the salesmen and Ms. Gupta before fleeing with some valuables, Mr. Gupta stated.

Investigating officers said they had received a complaint against Mr. Gupta that his staff attacked the gang members who barged into the shop.

Preliminary inquiries suggested that a scuffle had taken place , but the motive was yet to be probed, they added. Anna Nagar police registered a case.
