`Refer Bidar incident to Privileges Committee'

BANGALORE: Cutting across party lines, members in the Legislative Council demanded that the incident of the Bidar Rural police booking a case against Basavaraj Patil Humnabad in January 2007 be referred to the Privileges Committee.

Raising the issue during zero hour on Wednesday, Leader of the Opposition H.K. Patil said following an incident in a village near Bidar town that caused public disturbance, Mr. Humnabad, a member of the House, visited the village.

An MLA was also present at the village then.

According to reports, there were heated exchanges between the MLC and MLA over the issue.

The police had registered a case in connection with the incident, but in the first information report they had named Mr. Humnabad and left out the name of the MLA.

`Summon Prakash'

Mr. Patil, Mr. Humnabad, V.R. Sudarshan, V.S. Ugrappa (all Congress), M.P. Nadagouda of the Janata Dal (United), Gurudev of Janata Dal (Secular) and others urged the acting Chairman N. Thippanna to summon Home Minister M.P. Prakash to the House to make a statement on the issue.
