C.P. Yogeshwar files petition against lower court's decision

BANGALORE: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday ordered issue of notices to the Lokayukta and other respondents on a petition by Channapatna MLA C.P. Yogeshwar against a lower court in Bangalore taking cognisance of a Lokayukta complaint against him for failure to declare his assets.

Mr. Yogeshwar said he had filled all sections in a form declaring his assets but had not understood the wording in one column where he was asked to declare any loans he had taken. He challenged the action of the Lokayukta in lodging a complaint before a local court in Bangalore and of the court in taking cognisance and issuing process.

Justice Mohan Shantangouder refused to stay the lower court proceedings and observed that Mr. Yogeshwar should have asked somebody if he did not know the meaning of a Kannada word in one of the columns asking him to declare his assets.

Reserved

Justice N.K. Patil on Wednesday reserved orders on a petition by M. Venkataramanappa who had challenged the action of the authorities on August 30, 2006 in appointing a commission to hold an inquiry into allegations of plagiarism of a doctoral thesis.

Challenged

Justice N.K. Patil on Wednesday ordered issue of notices to Bangalore University and other respondents on a petition by B.R. Niranjan, Reader of University Visvesvaraya College of Engineering (UVCE), challenging the statute for appointment of Principal to UVCE by open selection.

Senior advocate Nalini Chidambaram is expected to appear on Mr. Perumal's behalf. The case is posted for hearing before Justice Mohan Shantangouder.

Dismissed
