Afro-Asian Cup in Chennai

Special Correspondent

Chennai: The three-match second Afro-Asian Cup will be held in Chennai and Bangalore in June. While Chennai will host the first match on June 6, Bangalore will stage the next two contests on June 9 and 10.

Confirming the dates to The Hindu, BCCI secretary Niranjan Shah said the competition could prove popular with the star players of Asia and Africa in action. The matches between the Asian Tigers and the African Lions, all day/night affairs, have been given official ODI status by the ICC.

Asked whether certain parts of Greg Chappell's report on India's World Cup performance had been leaked to the media, Mr. Shah answered: "I have not read or heard anything, nor has the BCCI president Sharad Pawar read or heard anything. The report will be submitted to the President during the BCCI meeting in Mumbai on April 6 and 7 and everything will be discussed. There are plenty of rumours flying around at the moment, and some of them have no basis. Let's wait and be patient. There is a proper forum for everything."
