Special Correspondent

KALPAKKAM: A 12-member overseas delegation is at the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR) on a tri-lateral collaborative programme among the Departments of Science and Technology of India, Brazil and South Africa.

Giving details of the nation-wide joint initiative, Baldev Raj, IGCAR Director and programme coordinator, told presspersons here on Friday that the IBSA nanotechnology initiative was to formulate mega collaborative programmes of mutual interest.

"We will chalk out specific areas of cooperation especially in the accepted areas of common national interest to all three countries covering energy materials, advanced materials, health, water treatment, agriculture, and environment," Dr. Raj said.

A dedicated website for the IBSA initiative would be created to motivate student researchers into the challenging and multi-dimensional area of nanotechnology, which was poised to make a big impact on global societies and economies.

Thembele Hillie, Principal Research Scientist from South Africa, and Jose Antonio Brum of Brazil felt that the IBSA nanotechnology initiative would open up new vistas.
