Nadagouda seeks Ashok's resignation

`He should own responsibility for dog menace'

BANGALORE: Janata Dal (United) MLC M.P. Nadagouda on Friday demanded that Bangalore city in-charge minister R. Ashok should resign owning moral responsibility for the recent deaths of children because of attack by street dogs.

Participating in a discussion in the Legislative Council on street dog menace, Mr. Nadagouda expressed concern over the increasing dog menace in the State, especially in Bangalore.

BJP member Mukhyamanthri Chandru demanded that the Government identify a place on the outskirts of Bangalore to rehabilitate street dogs. The NGOs and the Government should take the responsibility of looking after dogs in that place which should have a compound wall so that the dogs did not sneak into residential localities, he said. Some of the members alleged that the NGOs, who were executing sterilisation of dogs, were not effectively implementing the programme. At the same time, some Congress members, including Umashri, L. Hanumanthaiah and S.M. Anand opposed the killing of street dogs. Ms. Umashri urged the Government to conduct a study by animal experts on why dogs had become aggressive of late.

Medical Education Minister V.S. Acharya said by and large, residents of Bangalore were for measures to free the roads from street dogs.
