BSNL staff protest

KADAPA: Relay hunger strike by BSNL employees continued for the third day on Saturday demanding scrapping of mutual transfers and dip system of posting among 18-point charter of demands.

National Federation of Telecom Employees district secretary E. Balasundaram and district secretary of Federation of National Telecom Organisations S.A. Rehman led the protest. - Staff Reporter

KURNOOL: A milkman identified as Vengal Reddy died in a road accident in the city on Saturday. According to reports, Reddy who was coming on a two-wheeler hit a stationary vehicle near C. Camp. - Special Correspondent

Inter books' release

HYDERABAD: The Intermediate II year Telugu medium textbooks printed by the Telugu Academy are to be released for sale at its regional centres on April 16.

Changes will be made in the Intermediate I year textbooks following suggestions made by the Board of Intermediate Education. There will no changes in the II year books, J. Pratap Reddy, director, stated. — Special Correspondent

Fasting against Babli

HYDERABAD: Activists and leaders of the State BJP led by its president B. Banned fish seized

ADILABAD: Over 18 quintals of the banned catfish was seized by Two Town police in the wee hours of Saturday while it was in transit through Adilabad town. Thota Srikanth and M. Nagaraju of Kaikalur in Krishna district were arrested and the lorry in which the fish were being transported to Nagpur was also seized. The police said that culture, business and transport of cat fish was banned under GO 54 of October 4, 2005. — Staff Reporter

Goods train derails

GUNTUR: Railway traffic on the Howrah-Chennai line was hit on Saturday evening following derailment of a bogie of a goods train proceeding from Chennai to Vijayawada between Appikatla and Machavaram.

Two drowned

NIZAMABAD: Two persons were drowned in an agricultural well on Mullangi village outskirts under Dichpally police station limits on Saturday afternoon, said Sub-Inspector G. Srinivas. The victims were identified as Ambeti Nagesh, 18, and Mungisetti Srinivas, 28. The incident occurred when both went to swimming. Srinivas, though a swimmer, got drowned in attempting to save Nagesh, said the SI. The bodies were fished out with the help of a fire engine brought from Nizamabad. — Staff Reporter
