Punjab Police advances

Mumbai: Punjab Police beat Tamil Nadu XI 1-0 in the quarterfinal league of the 45th Bombay Gold Cup hockey tournament at the Mahindra Stadium here on Monday. Punjab Police, ONGC, Air-India and BSF have entered the semifinal league.

Last year's winner Army XI, BPCL, IHF Developmental XI and Namdari have been given direct entry into the semifinal league.

The scores: Punjab Police 1 (Amit Singh) bt Tamil Nadu XI 0; ONGC 2 (Anuragh Raghuvanshi, Jagwant Singh) bt South Central Railway 1 (Mayur Subbaiah); Air-India 2 (Len Aiyappa, Gavin Ferreira) drew with Army Green 2 (Suresh Kumar 2); Karnataka XI 4 (Anup Anthony 2, Hamza, Aiyappa) bt BSF 3 (Habil Topno, Mukjinder Singh, Ranjit Singh). — Special Correspondent
