Court allows Amarmani to file nomination

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday permitted former Uttar Pradesh Minister Amarmani Tripathi accused in the murder of Hindi poetess Madhumita Shukla to file his nominations for the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Following the cancellation of the bail by the apex court, he has been lodged in the Central jail, Dehradun.

A Bench consisting of the Chief Justice K.G. Balakrishnan and Justice R.V. Raveendran granted permission to Tripathi on an application filed by him seeking permission to move out of jail to file his nomination papers.

The counsel said that filing of nomination was to begin on April 20.

The Bench said the jail authorities could permit Tripathi to move out of the prison from April 18 to 22 to enable him to file his nomination under police escort. A CBI officer would accompany Tripathi during his travel from Dehradun to the place of the nomination.

The Bench made it clear that all the expenses would be borne by the petitioner and the amount should be paid in advance to the jail authorities.

The petitioner should not move or interact with other persons, except meeting the poll officials and his lawyers.
