Three persons buried alive

Srikakulam: Three daily wage earners -- two men and one women -- were buried alive when a huge block of earth of a pit which they were digging fell on them. The incident occurred in Gangaram village of Kotabommali mandal on Wednesday. They were digging the pit by the side of a road when the mishap occurred. - Special Correspsondent

Girl ends life

KURNOOL: A seventh standard girl committed suicide by consuming poison at Weaker Sections Colony on Tuesday night. According to reports, the girl, who was identified as Srilakshmi, (11), was reportedly hurt by her parents' decision to drop her from the school next year. Her father, a construction worker, told her that he would not be able to support her education. - Special Correspondent

Two persons found murdered

Srikakulam: Two persons -- Sudhakara Reddy (45) and N. Ravindra Choudary (40) -- both Directors of a granite company, operating in Tekkali, were brutally murdered around 3 p.m. on Wednesday.

Their bodies with knife injuries were found in a pool of blood in the building in Tekkali. According to Superintendent of Police Manish Kumar Sinha, just an hour before the incident, they were making some payments to the workers, when there was a heated argument. The murder might be the result of a dispute over payments, Mr.Sinha said. Reddy and Choudary are natives of Hyderabad and were residing in a building which is located at a stone's throw away from the police station.

Atheist Ramakrishna dead

GUNTUR: Well-known atheist Boddu Ramakrishna, whose Charuvaka Ashramam near Mangalagiri in Guntur district was popular, died of illness on Wednesday morning at a hospital in Vijayawada. He was 67. He is survived by wife, two sons and a daughter .

Born in 1940 in Thullur in Guntur district, he studied at Sanskrit Kalasala at Ponnur and taught for two years at Thandur in Ranga Reddy district and took up the job of principal of Tadikonda Sanskrit Kalasala in 1972. He quit the job to set up Charuvaka Vidyapeetham at Mangalagiri and wrote several textbooks `Telugu vachakalu' for children from Classes 1 to 5. He cultivated the scientific way of thinking among children and sought to develop questioning spirit among them. - Staff Reporter

US professor

HYDERABAD: The Andhra Pradesh Affiliated College Teachers' Association on Wednesday expressed condolences to the family of G.V. Loganathan who was killed in the Virginia Tech University shootout. In a message, the association also condemned the attack by students on the faculty of the Kakatiya University's physics department. Expressing anguish at the prevailing state of affairs on the Kakatiya university campus, G. Sridhar Reddy, general secretary, and Mallikarjuna Rao and S. Rajeshwar Rao, secretaries, urged the Vice-Chancellor to ensure that normalcy was restored. - Special Correspondent

KADAPA: One Kambhoji Kumar allegedly hacked to death Goresahebgari Mabu, 55, who was asleep in the foreyard of his house in Veerannagattupalle in Vempalle mandal in the early hours of Wednesday.

7 hurt in accident

TIRUPATI: Seven persons were injured when the Tata Sumo in which they were travelling turned turtle near Mamandur on Kadapa highway on Wednesday evening. Nagamani, a pregnant woman escaped unhurt, while her parents Venkataiah and Subbamma, family members Swarna Ramasubbamma, Venkateswarlu, Subbarayalu, Venkata Subbamma and driver Salauddin sustained serious injuries. They were coming from Varadaiahgaripalle near Rajampet to admit her to the Government Maternity hospital here for delivery. — Staff Reporter
