State to seek review of order

BANGALORE: Minister for Law and Parliamentary Affairs M.P. Prakash on Wednesday said the Government would file a petition seeking review of the Karnataka High Court order, granting interim stay on the Government notification banning all forms of lottery from April 1, 2007.

Addressing presspersons here, he said the Law Department had been instructed to take steps to file the review petition besides another seeking vacation of the interim stay granted by a single judge on Tuesday. Advocate-General Uday Holla had been asked to secure a copy of the order, he said.

The Karnataka High Court had granted the stay on the Government's March 27 notification banning all forms of lottery and declaring the State a "lottery free zone".

Board appointments

Mr. Prakash, who is also president of the State Janata Dal (S), said heads to 48 boards and corporations belonging to the party would be appointed in three or four days. JD (S) supremo and former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda convened a meeting recently to discuss this issue, he said.
