Security guard arrested

BANGALORE: A security guard who allegedly emailed a software firm stating that bombs have been planted on its premises was arrested by the Ashoknagar police with the help of the Cyber Crime Police.

The police identified the prankster as Simachal (23) of Bihar, a college dropout. He was working as a security guard at Sarnoff Technologies on Magarath Road and a few weeks ago was sacked on charges of misbehaviour, the police said. On April 2, a senior executive of Sarnoff Technologies got an email that bombs had been placed. The police did not find any explosives and the threat turned out to be a hoax.

On the basis of the Internet Protocol number, officials of the Cyber Crime Police Station traced the terminal from which the threatening mail was sent. The mail was sent by a security guard from a terminal at a leading software firm.

The police found that Simachal who had joined a private security agency had been posted at another software company.
