Principal arrested

HYDERABAD: Anti-Corruption Bureau officials arrested Siddam Reddy Madhava Reddy, Special Officer-cum-Principal, Kasturba Gandhi (Girls) Gurukula Vidyalayam in Rudravaram of Kurnool district on charges of accepting Rs. 5,000 as bribe.The official sought bribe to issue a cheque for supply of provisions. He is being remanded to judicial custody.

Probe into accident

HYDERABAD: Commissioner of Railway Safety, South Central Circle, R. P. Agarwal, will hold on April 25, an inquiry into the accident that occurred on April 20 involving the Nanded-Secunderabad Express and an RTC bus on Secunderabad-Nizamabad broadgauge. The inquiry would be held at the Railway Rest House-cum-Scout Den, near Manoharabad Railway Station. Bomb attack

NANDYAL: Two motorcycle-borne persons hurled smoke bombs at a company clerk, Subramanyam, who was injured. The clerk was returning from a bank after depositing Rs 1.10 lakhs of the company. — Special Correspondent

KVP bereaved

VIJAYAWADA: K.V.N. Satyanarayana, father of adviser to the State Government (public affairs) K.V.P. Ramachandra Rao, died of prolonged illness here on Saturday. He was 84, and is survived by wife, three sons and a daughter. He served as an honorary adviser to the Department of Telugu of Andhra University.

Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy expressed grief at the demise of Mr. Satyanarayana. Dr. Reddy and APCC president K. Keshava Rao will attend the funeral at Ampapuram on Sunday.

Train extended

GUNTUR: Secunderabad-Vijayawada inter-city express (2706) will be extended to Guntur, Guntur MP Rayapati Samabasiva Rao has said. The train leaves Secunderabad at 7.40 a.m., reaches Vijayawada at 1.30 p.m. and will depart from Guntur at 3.30 p.m. reaching Secunderabad at 9.50 p.m. — Staff Reporter

Beaten to death?

KADAPA: Two autorickshaw drivers allegedly beat to death an unidentified man aged around 40 years, at Vajpayee Nagar on Proddatur bypass road around Friday midnight.

The man, reportedly in an inebriated state, abused the drivers Nagaraju and Mahabub Peera, while travelling in the vehicle. They beat him to death with an iron rod and a boulder, the Prodattur police said. - Staff Reporter

KADAPA: Some 2,000 students wrote `mock' EAMCET conducted by SFI district committee at 11 centres in Kadapa district.

ANANTAPUR: The last date for sale of forms of Sri Krishnadevaraya University Common Entrance Test-2007 (SKUCET) for admission into various PG courses has been extended from April 21 to 25.
