Woman's body found after four days

BANGALORE: After four days of search, the decomposed body of 45-year-old Lakshmi, who was washed away in a storm water drain at Ulsoor, was recovered from the drain near Murugeshpalya in Airport Road

Lakshmi, who owned a petty shop on Annaswamy Mudaliar Road, had taken refuge in her shop when it started to rain on the night of April 21. Her shop, located on the periphery of the storm water drain, collapsed along with the retaining wall of the drain.

Her husband Manickyam had died a few years ago. A resident of Muthappa Gardens in Doddagunte, near Cox Town, Lakshmi is survived by her mother and son.

The body was found at around 1.30 p.m., according to a Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) spokesperson. It was taken to Bowring Hospital for post-mortem.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, on his visit to rain-affected areas, had announced a compensation of Rs. 10,000 to Lakshmi's family. But as the death had not been confirmed, he had refrained from enhancing the amount.

BBMP is yet to announce compensation.
