TIRUCHI : Expansion work at the Central Bus Stand in the city undertaken at an expenditure of Rs. 2.14 crore is progressing at a fast pace and is expected to get over by next month end. The work was initiated last year on 2.77 acres of adjacent railway land that the Tiruchi Corporation acquired by paying Rs. 5.66 crore. Thirtyfour new bays will be added to the existing 43 for parking buses, besides other works."All the expansion works will be completed and the new look bus stand will be ready by June end," the State Transport Minister, K. N. Nehru said while speaking at a function organised by the Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation at the Central Bus Stand on Tuesday to inaugurate new bus routes. Earlier, Mr. Nehru went round the bus stand and inspected the works in progress. Mr. Nehru also inaugurated thrice a day super deluxe bus services to Coimbatore from Tiruchi. The buses will leave Tiruchi at 4.15 a.m., 2.50 p.m. and 10.50 p.m. and reach the destination within four hours and 15 minutes with stoppage only at Karur. The fare for Karur is Rs. 36 and for Coimbatore Rs. 86. In the return direction, the buses will leave Coimbatore at 5.40 a.m., 11.30 a.m. and 9.45 p.m. Advance booking facility is available in both the directions.
