Two policemen held for graft
The complainant had alleged that Sub-Inspector Ravinder Pandit, posted with the Sangam Vihar H-Block police post, had been demanding Rs.1 lakh to allow construction on his plot. Acting on the complaint, the CBI registered a case. Following a negotiation, Sub-Inspector Pandit allegedly scaled down the bribe amount to Rs.20,000 and asked the complainant to hand over the amount to Constable Ashok. The constable was allegedly accepting the money when the CBI sleuths arrested him. At his instance, the Sub-Inspector was also arrested. They were produced in a Patiala House court here that remanded them to 14 days in judicial custody.
DJB worker manhandled
According to the police, the incident took place when some DJB workers went to the Okhla house to disconnect its pipeline connection. It is alleged that the house owner, Uday Singh, had an altercation with them and manhandled a DJB worker. On the basis of a complaint, the police have registered a case and are investigating.
Two killed in bus accident
According to the police, the accident took place around 9 a.m. when the speeding bus hit an electric pole in a bid to overtake another bus. Thirty-one-year-old Mangolpuri resident Babulal and 24-year-old Ajay, a resident of Gurdaspur in Punjab, died on the spot. The injured were taken to a nearby trauma centre where the condition of two of them was stated to be serious. The bus driver is absconding.
Car catches fire due to short circuit
According to the police, Girish Kumar Mishra was on his way to Alipur when his car suddenly went up in flames near the Hanuman Mandir flyover. The fire was caused by a short circuit, said the police.
High Court directive to DTC Chairman
``Irrespective of any further application that the Chairman, DTC may file, he is directed to be personally present in the Court on May 10,'' Justice S Murlidhar said while hearing a contempt petition.
