BANGALORE: An engineering college lecturer was killed and his colleague injured after a BMTC bus rammed their motorcycle near Bhadrappa Layout on Hebbal Ring Road around 8.30 a.m. on Thursday. While Nagaraj (25) was killed on the spot, a seriously injured Yeduvannan is battling for his life at a hospital, the police said. The two were lecturers at HKBK Engineering College in Kadugondanahalli. They were on their way to the college from a tutorial in Vijayanagar. After the accident, the bus driver fled the spot. The police chased the bus, which was bound for Hoskote from Kengeri, and arrested the driver Anand Kumar. The Hebbal traffic police have registered a case.
Two houses burgled
Burglars struck at two houses in Indiranagar police station limits and looted gold and silver ornaments estimated at Rs. 34 lakh and Rs. 2 lakh in cash. The police said the thieves made away with gold jewellery estimated at Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 1.5 lakh cash from flower exporter Reetu Khazaria's flat in Devalaya Apartments on 6th Cross, 4th Main, Defence Colony. The intruders broke a window when the Khazarias had been to Kolkata. The theft came to light when they returned on Wednesday night. Two Bihari youths, who were working at the house, had gone missing. The police suspect the two to be the culprits. In the other incident, burglars made away with gold and silver ornaments estimated at Rs. 9 lakh and cash from Geetha's house on 9th Cross, 10th A Main, 2nd Stage, Indiranagar. The police said the thieves had entered the house by breaking the locks of the main door between 6.15 p.m. and 8.15 p.m. on Monday. The Indiranagar police have registered separate cases of burglary.
Chain snatched
A man snatched a gold chain estimated at Rs. 50,000 from Vijaya Venugopal in Rajajinagar police station limits in on Thursday. The police said the incident occurred around 7 a.m. at 4th N Block, Rajajinagar, when Vijaya, an engineer, was on her way to a milk booth. The Rajajinagar police have registered a case.
Electrocuted
Anand (20) was electrocuted in a freak accident in Ramamurthynagar police station limits on Thursday. The police said that around 8.30 a.m. Anand, an employee of a business establishment on Post Office Road, was repairing television cable. When he flung the cable, it came in contact with a live electric wire and he was electrocuted. The Ramamurthynagar police have registered a case.
Pistol recovered
The Ulsoor Gate police on Wednesday arrested Raja (21) of Hoskote taluk and recovered from him a U.S.-made .22 Huntsman Colt pistol and 39 live bullets, estimated at Rs. 2 lakh. A fortnight ago, Raja had stolen the pistol and the bullets from the first floor house of Philips Alexander in Siddapura police station limits. Raja was arrested while he was trying to sell the weapon near a hotel on OTC Road, the police said.
Arrested
The Yeshwanthpur police have arrested four personsm, who allegedly murdered Imthiyaz (22) near the Yeshwanthapur railway station on April 11. The arrested were identified as Manjunath (20), Anand (20), Rudresh (23) and Pramod (20), all residents of Mohan Kumar Nagar. They had hacked Imthiyaz to death following rivalry, the police said.
