Bangalore: The Government is keen on building a community hall in Bangalore in memory of Jnanpith Award winner, the late K. Shivarama Karanth. Kannada and Culture Minister H.S. Mahadev Prasad said the Government would soon hold talks with the Bangalore Development Authority in this regard. Speaking after releasing a collection of short stories by Prema Bhat here on Friday, Mr. Prasad said the Government had launched several literary projects in the Suvarna Karnataka year, including translating the best of world literature into Kannada and making it available at a reasonable price. Many of these projects would be completed by September, when the World Kannada meet is scheduled to be held in Belgaum. Writer U.R. Ananthamurthy, who presided over the function, said every language community should honour not only great writers, but also those who keep the reading tradition alive through simple and accessible writing. The programme was also attended by writers Sa. Shi. Maruliah and G.S. Siddalinagiah.
