BANGALORE: The decision of the Transport Department to install speed governors in stage carriages plying in the State was challenged in the Karnataka High Court on Friday. A Division Bench comprising Justice K. Bhaktavatsala and Justice Subash B. Adi ordered issue of notices to the State, the Transport Department and other respondents in the PIL filed by a voluntary organisation. The petitioner contended that if speed governors were installed in a stage carriage, it would ensure slow movement of vehicle. Besides, the speed governor would be in force only in the State and stage carriages from other parts of the country would drive with more speed once they left the State's borders. The Bench adjourned further hearing on the case.
