Two killed in accident

KHAMMAM: Two persons including a six-year-old boy were killed and four others injured when a car overturned near a culvert near Maddulapali village here on Saturday. The deceased were identified as Ch Sesha Ratnam, 70 and Saisharat. Both were natives of Hyderabad. — Staff Reporter

Plea to scrap SEZ Act

HYDERABAD: A convention on special economic zones (SEZ) organised by the CPI (ML-Liberation) here on Saturday demanded scrapping of the SEZ Act, as they posed danger to the agricultural sector.

The convention also adopted a resolution calling upon left-wing intellectuals, students and leftist revolutionaries to take part in the struggle being organised by the party against SEZs. — Special Correspondent

Protests lodged during Praja Patham

KURNOOL: Residents of Kothapalli in Nandyal constituency and Mudumalakurthi in Kodumur lodged protest with MLAs and officials during the Praja Patham programme. At Kothapalli, women complained of water problem while at Mudumalakurthi, the villagers wanted repairs to the road leading to the village.

One killed in accident

KURNOOL: One person was killed while another received serious injuries when a tractor hit a two-wheeler at C. Camp Centre in the city on Saturday. According to reports, Basha, a medical shop worker, who was riding the two-wheeler died on the spot. After knocking down the two-wheeler, the tractor fell into a stream. Driver Yesu was critically injured. The pillion rider escaped with minor injuries. — Special Correspondent

Lump removed

ELURU: A team of doctors led by K Ramesh, urologist, removed a lump weighing about 2 kg from a patient R. Umadevi of Palacole through a surgical intervention at Asram Medical College here on Saturday.

According to Dr. Ramesh, the lump called `renal tumour' formed close to the right kidney by attaching itself to the surrounding organs like big vessels, small intestines and liver.

`mpaper' launched

ELURU: After e-paper, it's now `mpaper' (mobile paper) on offer. The BSNL Cell customers can read the newspapers through their mobile handsets. According to L. Ananthram, GM Telecom, West Godavari district, customers can have this facility by accessing GPRS and by using WAP of `Cell one Safari'. A free-trial offer is allowed up to May 17. Later, a monthly fixed charge of Rs 30 for one newspaper and Rs 50 for three newspapers would be levied , Mr. Ananthram added.

Farm worker drowned in village tank

Kakinada: A farm worker Veera Satyanarayana, 34, was drowned in the village tank when he stepped in for a pot of water required for spraying pesticide in G. Vemavaram village under I Polavaram police station limits on Saturday. - Correspondent
