Chennai: Private medical colleges should not be allowed to run hospitals with the fees collected from students, the Students' Federation of India (SFI) has suggested to the Permanent Committee for Fixation of Fees in Self-Financing Professional Colleges. It also opposed the Rs. 1.3 lakh per year fees fixed by the Justice A. Raman Committee and said the amount was beyond the reach of a middle class family. It has also urged immediate action to ensure that the trusts running medical colleges open their accounts for public audit.
